The Lycian Way: Walking the Kaş Section

May 11, 20261 min read

The Lycian Way is a waymarked footpath of around 540 kilometres running from Fethiye to Antalya. Walking the whole thing takes weeks, but the good news is you can sample the short sections around Kaş in a day, or even a few hours.

The route is marked with red-and-white painted blazes; two parallel stripes on a rock or tree mean "you're on the right path." An X shape means "don't go this way."

For beginners, the coastal stretches near Kaş are ideal: you walk along sea views on mostly flat or gently sloping ground. More ambitious hikers can climb inland among pine forests and ancient ruins.

Preparation matters: bring sturdy walking shoes, plenty of water (at least 1.5-2 litres), a hat, sunscreen and snacks. Keep an offline map on your phone, as the signal is weak in places.

Remember: the Lycian Way is a wilderness trail. If you walk alone, tell someone where you're going, and avoid walking at midday when it's very hot.

Spring and autumn are the best seasons for walking; summer is hot and in winter some sections can be muddy.
